A word from U’Nique Community Fund:

Monique Kathleen Parkin took her life on her birthday on January 2, 2012. She was 26 years old. We are still mourning the loss of our beautiful Monique and are passionate about helping our community battle suicide and mental disease.

Keeping this in mind, her friends and family have created the U’Nique Community Fund, a non-profit organization whose mission is to bring suicide and mental health awareness to our local community. We participate in local events, and host our own, such as the Womanless Beauty Pageant and the New Year’s Eve Ball. Every penny we make goes towards helping others know suicide is not the option and help is always available.

Suicide is a permanent act to a temporary condition. We learned this horrific lesson when we lost Monique, but we refuse to allow her death and the similar deaths of others to go unnoticed. It’s time mental health awareness is as much on the forefront of our minds as other life-threatening diseases and it’s past time for it to be a part of everyday discussion. We are here to start the conversation.

Together we can make a difference and help those who are severely depressed break out of their prisons and become whole once more. Please come out and show your support by joining us at the 3rd annual New Years Eve Ball.
